My mom is in the hospital and the only good thing about having someone you love in the hospital is that you get a lot of quality knitting time. Currently on the needles is the Pinwheel Baby Blanket in baby bamboo. It's deliciously soft and comforting to work in the hospital.
As for the baby bamboo (in Putty), it's a DK weight and feels flimsy on size US 5 Addi Turbos but my friends keep telling me I'm being silly. I remain unconvinced and wish I had started on 4s. I guess I like things more structured and neat (yanno - unlike the rest of my life).
So I was in my mom's hospital room, trying to adjust the wire of my underwire bra which had broken free of the fabric and was now poking me dangerously near my one and only heart. Walking to my car a couple hours later, I realized I was about to enter a parking garage alone at night. Keep eye out for dangerous looking creeps hiding behind concrete pillars, I thought, and then quickly imagined myself fighting off a would-be attacker by deftly pulling out my underwire sword in an impressive Catwoman-like move. I think that means I'm tired.
Hope all is well in your world.

Why I love to knit
Today was a pretty bad day in my little corner of the world and it felt so heavy. My muscles actually hurt from the stress. So I had a good hot dinner and an ice cold Coke and I cast on for a new project. Something about casting on is in itself hopeful. It felt so good.
I made it to row 27 of Saartje's Booties, ready to start the other strap, when I realized I had cut the yarn. Hmm. But even though I'm probably going to have to pull it out and start over, I didn't mind. I was able to wash away this day into that pool of yarn sitting on my desk and twist it around my needles to make something beautiful. I paused and felt the squishy garter stitch and admired the blue of the Sublime yarn. It renewed me and made me happy. I love knitting.

Ravelry question
Why don't my posts show up in that little screen shot on my Ravelry profile? What's up with that?

Pick a blog name, will ya?!
I know. It's a little schitzophrenic how I keep changing my blog rather than actually writing on my blog. But I didn't like the name Knitting Factor and MARYTOWN just feels good. Plus, I could never get that Google Adsense going over there. So this is home now. Welcome!
The Elizabeth Zimmerman Baby Blanket from Knitting Workshop is finished!
I love this pattern because it's so easy and even though it's just garter stitch, it's fun to watch the pattern coming together. The color, I admit, is a little unorthodox for a baby blanket, but it is my sister-in-law's favorite color and she loves it and now I do, too. I got confused on EZ's seam instructions and bound off instead of taking the stitches off the needles and weaving them together nicely. My friend Evonne tells me this will be easy to undo and redo properly. Let's hope.
